Part of a group of negatives taken for February 11, 1964, Arkansas Gazette article "Ouachita County People Have Saved Fine Old House," B1:2. The Chidester house, also known as the McCollum-Chidester house, in Camden, Ouachita County, Arkansas, was saved to be renovated and opened to the public by the Ouachita County Historical Society. Built in 1849 by Peter McCollum of South Carolina, the house was one of the first homes in the area to be built with plaster walls, carpeting, wallpaper and an iron cook stove. McCollum sold the house in 1862 to John Chidester, a stagecoach business owner.
